Is
CalPOP really the largest dedicated server company?
CalPOP is the largest dedicated server company in Los Angeles.

anywhere near as much bandwidth or power as CalPOP in Los Angeles. CalPOP houses
thousands of dedicated servers and thousands of colocation servers in it's data centers
located in Downtown Los Angeles. CalPOP is located at the "edge" of Los Angeles
meaning that CalPOP is located right at the fiber peering points where hundreds of
networks meet. This means that the next "hop" might be another city.
Does CalPOP really have the most redundant network?
CalPOP's IP numbers are announced by AT&T, LEVEL3, MZIMA,
COGENT, and SAVVIS - this means that if any of these networks go down even for maintenance
that the IPs will continue to be routed and announced by the other networks allowing
CalPOP to offer 100% uptime.
Does CalPOP really have the fastest network?
There are literally hundreds of networks that CalPOP can choose
from to connect to in Los Angeles. CalPOP is located right at the peering points of LA and
purchases transit from the most reliable and fastest networks that it can find. CalPOP's
network is optimized for speed and because CalPOP is so big, CalPOP can afford gigabit
fiber connections to all the fastest networks.
Does CalPOP have free 24 hour on-site tech support?
CalPOP offers free 24 hour on-site connectivity related support
and free 24/7/365 on-site tech support for anything that takes 5 minutes or less. So

your SLA? Do you offer 100% uptime?
Most of CalPOP's clients

created by company's to trap clients into long term agreements - so they rarely offered
100% uptime. CalPOP offers 100% uptime guaranteed.
Do
you have a money back guarantee?
Yes, CalPOP offers a 100%
money back guarantee on all orders that are canceled within the first 7 days of

What's Ultra Premium bandwidth?
Becasuse CalPOP is the
largest dedicated server provider in Los Angeles, CalPOP is connected to all the fastest
providers. Every server is connected directly to AT&T, LEVEL3, XO, SAVVIS, MZIMA,
COGENT & XEEX. That's why we call it ULTRA PREMIUM bandwidth- because it's the best
network that money can buy
What
is "unmetered" bandwidth?
"Unmetered"
bandwidth is a term which means that you will not be charged for any bandwidth overage
because a bandwidth "cap" has been put into place - usually at either the 10mbps
mark (3,285 gigs/month) or at 100mbps mark. These plans are "full duplex"
meaning you get 10mbps upload and also 10mbps download bandwidth available at the same
time. The bandwidth is unshared and your commitment level is guaranteed. Every plan comes
with a real time bandwidth monitoring graph so that you can watch your actual bandwidth
usage in real time if you need more bandwidth you can always purchase more and we can
remove the "cap" however most clients prefer the 10mbps because it is usually
more than anyone needs and insures no bandwidth overage fees .
What is "unshared" bandwidth?
CalPOP does not share your bandwidth commitment with other clients which means that your
bandwidth commitment level is guaranteed. If you order 10mbps you get 10mbps and if you
order 100mbps you get 100mbps. CalPOP has many, many 1000mbps gigabit fiber lines
and keeps those about half full so that there is plenty of "overhead" bandwidth
on the network backbone which it holds for reserves and which helps protect the network in
the event of attacks.
What is 95th percentile bandwidth billing?
Bandwidth is often sold by
hosting company's in "gigs" of bandwidth transfer on the lower end, but on the
higher end it is purchased by ISPs in mbps (megabits per second). This is because more
important than the amount of data transfer is the capacity utilized while doing so- since
no one else can use that capacity if you are using it all up. A gig of transfer is
like a gallon of gas, but mbps is like the size of the pipeline that the gas is going
through. 95th percentile billing is the industry standard billing practice which
determines the fair amount of capacity that a client is using and that's what the client
is billed for. A bandwidth usage sample is taken every 5 minutes and these are plotted on
a graph. A client is not billed for the highest 5% of his or her bandwidth sample -
these are the so called "spikes" and so billable usage is determined to be at
the 95% spot of the samples. See http://calpop.com/95percent.html
for more info.
Are
there any bandwidth overage bills?
If you have subscribed to
an unmetered plan like the 10mbps Hybrid bandwidth plan (the default plan) then there is
no bandwidth overage bill. If you are subscribed to 20mbps burstable Hybrid plan
then you will be billed at the rate of $199 for each 10mbps or part of 10mbps you use over
20mbps or $1000 for the full 100mbps whichever is less. If you are on the Xtreme bandwidth
plan then you will be billed for any bandwidth over 4mbps at the rate of $49/mbps based on
95th percentile bandwidth usage.

client at a time. In fact, CalPOP is one of the fastest growing private companies in not
only Los Angeles but in America as well.

CalPOP has always offered "fully managed"

servers" are typically known and defined in this industry. There may be some variance
from company to company as to exactly what "fully managed" means so here's what
CalPOP understands a fully managed server to be:
The following services are provided and offered

notification for downtime for anyone who wants it.

data center which are updated every 5 minutes.
5. We provide free tech support for anything that

telco cabinets. CalPOP has it's rackmount cases custom made with extra fans and durable
power power supplies.
How many static IPs can I get
with my dedicated server?
Every dedicated server comes with 1 static IP and
if you want more they are $1/ip/month. If you ask for more than 5 we may ask you to
"justify" the usage according to the rules of ARIN who issues IP numbers.
Do you offer free part
replacement?
Yes! CalPOP offers free part replacement for all it's dedicated servers and add-ons.
CalPOP has an extensive parts inventory since it builds it's own servers and so CalPOP
usually has a spare part or spare server available for all your needs.
Do I need a control panel?
Which ones are best and why?
Control panel software for both windows and linux is recommended especially for those
clients who have limited admin skills. Control panel software provides such things as a
Mail Server, Individual User Logins, Statistics, and DNS all with easy to use and
web accessible graphical user interfaces. CalPOP wants you to use the control panel you
are comfortable with-- but also has worked out savings options on some popular control
panels which are featured here: http://calpop.com/hosting.html
Please check out the demos of these popular panels!
Can I get my server
"capped" or "uncapped"?
By default the Xtreme bandwidth plan is "uncapped" and burstable to 100mbps. By
default the Hybrid bandwidth plan is "capped" and burstable only to
10mbps. If you have 100mbps port and want it capped to 10mbps or vice versa we will
be happy to help you with that.
If you are on the Hybrid bandwidth plan and want
more than 10mbps then the next plan up is 20mbps "uncapped" and burstable to
100mbps. You can get this for extra $199/month ( which works out to $19.90/mbps (328 gigs)
which we sell in groups of 10mbps until it's just cheaper to get the whole 100mbps
unmetered for $1000/month)
If you are on the Xtreme bandwidth plan you are
already "uncapped" and burstable to 100mbps. You will be charged for bandwidth
in excess of 4mbps (equivalent to 1,312 gigs/month) based on 95th percentile billing
at the rate of $49/mbps.
If I prepay 1 year but cancel
early can I get a refund?
Yes! If you prepay 1 year to save money, but for some reason need to cancel your service
early, then your contract will revert to a month-to-month contract and we will refund the
difference between the 1 year prepay rate and the rate had you signed up for month to
month service and paid the set-up fees assocaited with month-to-month service from the
beginning.
Will you handle my DNS for me for
free?
Yes! We provide free DNS services. We will put
client zone files in all 4 of our name servers (ns1.calpop.com-ns4.calpop.com) for up to
15 domains for free. Just open a ticket at http://help.calpop.com
.

servers?
